Owner of Stone Farm Forge, Steve Stone
Steve's dad, Moody Stone, taught him to weld when he was a young boy. He was bitten by the metal works bug and knew it was what he wanted to do. In 1986, he went to farrier school and began a career in professional horseshoeing. He became a Certified Journeyman Farrier. He developed his blacksmithing skills while competing in farrier competitions. Long story short, he transitioned his blacksmithing and welding hobby into a career.

Well, the first get-together of our "Forge Group" at Stone Farm Forge in Anniston, AL was a success! Although the turn-out was light, it was 2 days after Christmas, so that was expected.
We had two visitors and one beginner smith: Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Harrell, from the Delta community were in attendance to observe. Michael Parris, from Piedmont, AL, is a beginner blacksmith and is very interested in developing his skills. He requested assistance with making tongs. He had attempted it on his own and said "it didn't turn out very well". That's why we're here; to help each other learn and encourage people to develop their skills to actually become a blacksmith. That's the only way the Art of Blacksmithing will survive.
We'll be here to do it again, the fourth Sunday of January, the 24th, and see how it goes. Hopefully, the interest in our part of the state will grow.
Many Thanks to my wife, Cindy, for all the work she has done to make this happen and the encouragement she gives me on a daily basis and for the photos of everyone's participation!
Thank you also to the membership of the AFC for your support and encouragement.
Michael came away with a decent set of tongs for small stock, even though the reins are long enough to reach from his forge to your anvil! He has plenty of room to trim the reins if he so desires, but he likes the extra reach afforded for working with his gas forge. He did a really good job and takes suggestions very well...he's gonna be a good-un!
Charlie & Martha Harrell of Delta, AL came by to observe. We enjoyed having you Charlie & Martha!
